“
My interest in human potential spans back to my earliest childhood memories. An
interest in the underlying nature of reality and what it means to be human has
guided all aspects of my life, whether in work, play or education. It has taken
me on extensive travels and has brought me together with many amazing people
from around the world. It has led me to develop a deep interest in traditional
knowledge as well as the emerging technologies that will allow humans to reach a
new level of social and personal evolution. Professionally, it has led me to the
life of a healer and educator, not least because I am healed and educated by the
very people I help.
My
formal education includes study at the Canadian College of Massage and
Hydrotherapy, resulting in my registration as a massage therapist in 1997. I am
also a graduate of Trent University, where I completed a science degree in
Psychology with emphasis on successful aging, cognition and research
methodology. I am a trained Sivananda yoga instructor and have studied Ashtanga
yoga in Mysore, India to instructor level. I have trained in numerous other
areas relating to social, physical, intellectual, and spiritual development.
More
important to me is my informal education, arising from the experiences of which
life is made. As any of you who have wandered on long journeys know…there is
no better school than this wide world and the people who live in it.
Finally,
it must be said that I have learned many of my deepest lessons from the people I
have worked with. Whether sharing deeply with the terminally ill, working with
motor vehicle accident victims through the struggle to regain their lives,
helping top athletes push the bounds of what is humanly possible, or
experiencing all those “normal” people who have constantly stunned me with
the power of the human spirit, the gifts I have received from others have been
profound.
My long time experience of education and healing has
led me to the conclusion that learning which is based in a holistic mix of
theory and “hands on” experience has the deepest impact on those who
participate. I believe that we have created an incredible space for these
pursuits here at Tanglefoot Lodge. It is my sincere hope that this retreat
changes the lives of those who come here."
