Looking for one of those experiences that you remember for the rest of your life? Join Russ for the Mysore, India retreat in August/September, 2008. This unique program is designed radically transform your yoga practice regardless of your experience level. It includes daily asana practice with one of Mysore, India's top physical yoga teachers, a dream yoga/lucid dreaming intensive led by Russ Hazard, accommodations, and group visits to some of the regions most interesting locations with detailed interpretive yoga teachings onsite (for those who want them). Beyond this, your own expenses need only be minimal. Depending on your tastes, food and shopping costs run from negligible to high end.

Main Program

Daily Asana Practice – Choice of hatha or traditional Mysore ashtanga practice.

Dream yoga intensive led by Russ Hazard. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Dream yoga, it is the practice of becoming awake and aware in your dreams, and depending on the needs of the moment, learning to exert control over them. This practice is complemented by understanding concepts of waking dreaming and helps to build deeper awareness into the waking state as well as giving profound insight into the true teachings of maya and drishti. Essentially, these practices, taken together, open doorways into experiencing anything you can imagine, and likely much that you have not.

Russ will bring together a broad palette of teachings from around the world garnered from intensive training throughout his life. These include western scientific principles of Lucid Dreaming as taught by Dr. Stephen LeBarge, traditional dream yoga practices, vipassana teachings on dreams states including turiya, and indigenous shamanic waking dream/ sleeping dream practices from multiple cultures. This diverse program will be integrated synergistically by Russ with cutting edge perspectives on modern consciousness training and neurocognitive psychology.

This intensive is experiential, though it does provide a sound theoretical background. Expect to transform your body, and your entire experience of reality.

Also included are interpretive visits to many incredible sacred sites in and around Mysore.

Chamundi Hill & Shiva Nandi – Visit the physical location of one of India's great spiritual myths. Visit the commemorative goddess temple, and Shiva nandi with an interpretive class on this epic story and well and teachings on relevant Shiva/Shakti Tantric philosophy from a yogic perspective.

Tibetan Settlements – Visit the largest Tibetian settlements in South India. Examine Tibetian Buddhist art and the famous gold Buddhas. Learn about Vipassana and Dream yoga teachings within this context.

Somnathpur – Keshava Temple. 33km east of Mysore. Built in 1268 and covered in murals depicting scenes from the Bagavad-Gita, Ramayana, and Mahabharata. Explore some of the deep teachings of these texts onsite.

Melkote town – Cheluvarayaswami Temple. Built in the 12th century, this incredible temple dominates the lands around it. Examine Karma, Bhakti, Raja, and Jnana yoga teachings here with a grounding in Vipassana Meditation theory.

This retreat will be led by Russ Hazard, head instructor of Tanglefoot lodge. The retreat is modular, with stays from two weeks up available.

You are welcome to choose a visit length that suits your needs, from 2-4 weeks. Four weeks is ideal as it allows enough time to train both your body and consciousness deeply. However, two weeks will provide all you need to carry on your training independently at home.

The cost of this retreat has intentionally been kept as low as possible at $900 Canadian dollars for two weeks, $1250 for three weeks and $1500 for one month, plus your airfare. Due to a need to pre-book accommodations and teachers, a non-refundable deposit of $600 is required to secure your space. We will be happy to assist you in finding the right flight for you. In our experience, getting you tickets early saves money. We will also be doing a group purchase of tickets, arranged by Russ for the main contingent, creating additional savings on airfare.

The course size will be kept small to facilitate one on one training and make ceremonies managable.

There are a wealth of daily and weekly courses that are available with local teachers in areas such as Sanskrit, traditional Indian painting, music (sitar, tabla, harmonium), Indian dance, cooking, chanting, philosophy, etc. These can all be arranged prior once we are there. Other optional group activities (dinners etc) will be arranged on an optional and improvisational basis.
