Didgeridoo and Djembe Intensive with Lou Robinson and Ray Dillard

Date to be advised!

Come and join us for this new and exciting addition to Mountain Rythym & Tanglefoot Lodge’s ongoing percussion programs! We are flying Lou Robinson, one of the best known didge instructors around in from Portland, Oregon to work with Ray Dillard in creating an amazing weekend experience. Examine the ancient Australian didgeridoo and the African djembe in depth. Classes will focus both on techniques for each instrument and on the interaction between them. During downtime, jam out with other amazing people, eat great food, chill out in the hot tub, and take in performances by the professionals.

Friday evening

Didge class #1 - Introduction to didgeridoo:  Includes background and historical info on didge as well as making the basic drone sound and learning cheek squeezes.

Saturday

Breakfast

Djembe class #1 – An introduction to some of the historical “roots” of the djembe.  A combination of technical and musical concepts will be covered.

Didge class #2 - Creating color and rhythms with Didge - Includes use of tongue, diaphragm and vocals to make your didge playing rich and varied.

Lunch

Djembe class #2 – An investigation of the “soft side” of djembe playing!  This session will look at applying North Indian, Middle Eastern and North African “finger” techniques to the djembe.

Didge class #3 - Circular Breathing with the Didge - This session will focus on developing the natural coordination required to learn the art of circular breathing, giving you the ability to play continuously without having to stop to take a breath.

 Dinner

Evening talk, performance and jam – Lou and Ray will introduce some personal concepts and ideas for creating good “ensemble”.  These will then be demonstrated through a duet performance, which will slowly morph into a full-out ensemble experience for all participants.

Sunday

Breakfast

Djembe class #3 – This session will introduce the use of the total sonic range of the djembe to create rich, multi-faceted rhythms not usually associated with djembe playing.

Didge class #4 -  Circular Breathing and Technique Integration with Didge - A session to put together all of the techniques and integrate them to create rhythms and moods.  Session also to serves as an opportunity to address particular individual needs and to work on reinforcing circular breathing techniques.

Combined Drum & Didge Closing class – This final jam will bring together all of the material covered into a mix of didge and drums, allowing an exploration of this most unique and capable combination!

Late lunch/closing feast and pictures (2-3pm)
